Project Case

Innovation through sustainable knowledge transfer with KAMAX SHARE

Intro

Valuable specialist knowledge in production is often lost when experienced employees leave the company.

KAMAX wanted to change this - with a digital platform that makes knowledge accessible across generations. A team from the HPI d-school worked with employees to develop the “KAMAX SHARE” prototype to facilitate the rapid, practical exchange of knowledge and secure know-how in the long term.

Challenge

How can valuable expertise be passed on from experienced employees to the next generation? KAMAX, a highly specialized screw manufacturer for the automotive industry, asked itself this question. The goal: a platform that bundles knowledge from different departments and facilitates the exchange between employees.

Starting point

At KAMAX, many employees have been with the company for decades – often from training to retirement. Especially in cold forming, a complex and central production area, there is an enormous amount of experience and knowledge. However, this know-how differs from product to product and machine to machine – and is at risk of being lost without targeted knowledge transfer.

Aha-moments

A team of students from the HPI d-school delved deep into the day-to-day work of production employees. Through interviews, observations and co-creation sessions, key needs became apparent: knowledge should be available at all times, documented in a practical way and easily accessible. The solution? A digital platform that stores knowledge in a structured way and facilitates the exchange between departments and generations.

This resulted in the prototype “KAMAX SHARE” – a web-based knowledge platform that was developed and continuously optimized in close collaboration with production employees.

Impact

With “KAMAX SHARE”, valuable knowledge is retained and can be accessed at any time. Employees can search for specific information, ask questions and share their expertise. The platform is a tool from production employees for production employees – and strengthens the culture of innovation at KAMAX. The newly established digitalization department worked immediately on the implementation to anchor the transfer of knowledge in the company in the long term.
