Research Methods

Lecturer: Prof. Dr. Felix Naumann

Dates: Monday's 17:00 - 18:30

The first date is an introduction and open to all.

Signing up: Commitment by April 16 (23:59) via email to [email protected]. If more than six persons sign up, I will decide randomly. You will receive a notification on April 17 and have time to prepare for the first regular slot on April 28.

Participants: Maximal 6

Language: English by default, German by demand

Requirements: Active attendance and brief presentations at all dates

Seminar structure: The Master's program prepares students for an academic career, among others. In this seminar, we look at and discuss a variety of topics related to research. It is less about subject-specific aspects and more about the academic world, expected skills, examples of good and bad research, ethics, plagiarism, etc. The full list of topics will be drawn up during the semester according to interests and agreement.

The seminar has an unusual format: Two weeks are dedicated to some specific topic related to science. Participants are given a variety of reading and research material and prepare a short presentation (5-10min) for each meeting. The presentations do not have to be elaborate slides, but can also be purely oral, for example. We then discuss your input and develop the topic. No further work, such as a paper, is required.

Course schedule

The course will take place every Monday at 17:00 in F-2.10.
