The Hasso Plattner Institute is located in Babelsberg, a part of Potsdam. Potsdam itself is the capital of the sate Brandenburg and borders directly on Berlin. In fact, HPI is literally only a stone's through away from Berlin. It can be conveniently reached via urban rail (S-Bahn) from Berlin. See here for maps and directions to HPI.

Airports

Berlin has two airports: Tegel (TXL) lies close to Berlins city center and to Potsdam. It is the main international airport of Berlin and can be reached directly from many German, European and some US destinations. Schönefeld (SXF) lies a bit outside of Berlin and is further from Potsdam. It is popular with low-cost carriers and has many cheap connections to German and European destinations.

To HPI via public transport

• From Berlin Tegel take bus 109 heading towards Berlin´s Zoologischer Garten train station as far as S-Bahn station Charlottenburg.
• From Berlin Tempelhof take U-Bahn Line 6 heading towards Alt Tegel as far as S-Bahn station Friedrichstraße
• From Berlin Schönefeld walk to the train station or take bus 171 heading towards U-Bahn station Rudow as far as S-Bahn station Flughafen Berlin-Schönefeld DB. From the train station take the S9 towards Spandau as far a S-Bahn station Westkreuz.
• Then take the S7 towards Potsdam-Hauptbahnhof as far as S-Bahn station Griebnitzsee.
• Also Potsdam local busses 694 and 696 stop at station Griebnitzsee.
• To the main building: Take the underpass exit marked "Universität", then keep left and after approx. 500 m you will see HPI on your right side.

To HPI via car

If you car navigation system doesn't find Prof.-Dr.-Helmert-Straße, please enter: Stahnsdorfer Straße 156A, 14482 Potsdam

• Change from the A10 at the intersection Dreieck Nuthe-Tal (formally called Dreieck Drewitz) onto the A115 heading towards Berlin Zehlendorf / Potsdam.
• Take the Potsdam-Babelsberg exit (take care: dual exit!).
• Continue along the Nuthestraße heading towards the city center (Zentrum) as far as the Wetzlarer Straße exit (Medienstadt Babelsberg). Turn right passing the BMW Autohaus and then left towards Babelsberg. Straight on at the next intersection Großbeerenstraße/Wetzlarer Straße into the August-Bebel-Straße. After approx. 1.5 km, directly before the rail underpass, turn right into the Prof.-Dr.-Helmert-Straße. At the very end of the street you will see HPI.
