Reem Refaie joined the HPDTRP in 2020 and her primary research interests include Design Thinking applications in the fields of international development and citizen-centered governance. She has a background in Middle East and North African studies, where she worked as a development consultant on a hoard of social policy topics. Most notably, her work on the process evaluation of Egypt’s Conditional Cash Transfer Programme “Takaful and Karama” as commissioned by the World Bank Group.
More recently, she completed a Master’s Degree in Public Policy from the Hertie School of Governance in Berlin. During her time at Hertie, she conducted a one-year research study in collaboration with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), where she focused on fostering participatory governance in the East African country, Rwanda.
