Univ.-Prof. Dr.sc.nat. Dr.rer.nat. Christoph Meinel (1954) was President and CEO of the Hasso Plattner Institute for Digital Engineering gGmbH (HPI)from October 2004 to March 2023. In the years 2017-2021 he was founding dean of the Digital Engineering Faculty of the University of Potsdam. He is C4-professor for computer science and heads the department for Internet Technologies and Systems.

Beside others, Meinel is member of acatech, the National German Academy of Science and Engineering, Govenor of the Technion in Haifa, chairman or member of various management and advisory boards, visiting professor in various national and international universities, and was 2008 - 2022 program director of the HPI-Stanford Design Thinking Research Program.

2012 he and his team developed the first European MOOC-platform openHPI. On this platform he offers various interactive online courses for tenthousends of learners.

Funded by the German Federal German Ministry of Education and Sciences Meinel developed 2017 - 2021 the HPI Schul-Cloud which meanwhile is in use in thousends of schools allover Germany. • He teaches at the bachelor- und master study programs of digital engineering of HPI and in the HPI School of Design Thinking. At openHPI he offers a number of interactive online course on digital enligthenment, Internet topics (e.g. 50 Jahre Internet) und cybersecurity (e.g. Tatort Internet) and supervises many Phd students. More than 70 of his PhD students have successfully defended their PhD thesis.
