As the rapidly increasing popularity of Massive Online Online Courses (MOOCs) shows, modern technology can aid human education and scientific progress. However, online learning platforms are still in early stages of their development. Our InstantLab project demonstrates how much future potential and opportunities such platforms can offer for mass education. Current online classes often lack interactivity. Since such classes rely on massive amounts of text, students can hardly gain practical experience and study in experimental, exploratory ways.
We offer a novel learning paradigm! InstantLab supports live interaction with various computer experiments. It is already used successfully in several HPI courses. Apart from cloud technologies, cutting edge accelerators and servers, as well as modern scalability solutions are used. Students can focus on the interactive learning content and work with live experiments, which, in the background, are executed on advanced hardware.
