The Hasso Plattner Institute at CeBIT 2016

March 20 to 24, 2017

With the rapidly increasing volume of data the complexity of digital structures and their potential applications are growing in every area of society. As a consequence, technical systems, individual users and decision-makers are facing new challenges. But innovative solutions do not just appear out of thin air. At CeBIT 2017 in hall 6 at booth E18 the Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI) is presenting current research projects from the areas of IT security, digital education, eHealth and Design Thinking in line with this year’s motto: "Growing Together".

At a stand of more than 120m² CeBIT visitors can experience how the digital future can be shaped together: With the school-cloud, students will be able to easily access digital teaching materials at any time, from any location. Professionals can obtain further training free of charge with the help of specifically-tailored online courses from the openHPI interactive online education platform. Businesses can view presentations on how one can monitor large company networks in real time with the REAMS monitoring solution and detect complex attacks early on.

HPI will also be demonstrating the potential opportunities available for research in the analysis of electronic patient data. There will also be three young HPI start-ups on hand to present their business ideas: The digital whiteboard from neXenio offers new solutions for collaboration in a virtual office; LANA Labs offers businesses support for process optimization; and Feram helps software developers automatically detect errors and rectify them.

The Hasso Plattner Institute

The Hasso Plattner Institute for Software Systems Engineering is Germany’s university excellence center for IT-Systems Engineering. HPI is financed entirely through private funds donated by its founder Prof. Hasso Plattner, who co-founded the software company SAP. HPI is the only university institution in Germany offering the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in "IT-Systems Engineering"—a practical and engineering-oriented alternative to conventional computer science studies. Current enrollment is at approximately 480 students. The HPI School auf Design Thinking is Europe’s first innovation school for university students. It is based on the Stanford model of the d.school and offers 240 places annually for a supplementary course of study.

There are a total of twelve HPI professors and over 50 guest professors, lecturers and contracted teachers at the Institute. HPI carries out research noted for its high standard of excellence in its eleven topic areas. Research work is also conducted at the Potsdam HPI Research School for PhD candidates as well as at its branches in Cape Town, Haifa, and Nanjing. HPI teaching and research focuses on the foundation and application of large-scale, highly complex and distributed IT systems. The development and exploration of user-driven innovations for all sectors of life is an additional area of importance. HPI always earns the highest positions in the CHE university ranking. Its free, open online courses on openHPI.de are available to everyone.
