The Werner-von-Siemens Ring, which is awarded for outstanding service and achievements that contribute to Germany as a business location, is one of the most important awards for scientific and technical innovation in Germany. The jury's verdict declares: As computer scientist and entrepreneur, Hasso Plattner has achieved outstanding accomplishments particularly in the innovative application of in-memory databases and the development of globally implemented enterprise software systems. As the founder of SAP, Hasso Plattner has had a decisive influence on Germany as a business location and repeatedly built bridges with a wealth of ideas - between science and research, industry and politics.
Professor Christoph Meinel, Director of the Hasso Plattner Institute for Digital Engineering, congratulates the HPI founder on this prestigious award: "For decades, Hasso Plattner has been successful in linking economics and science. Hasso Plattner's enthusiasm, his knowledge and his keen sense for innovations in the field of IT have inspired many people and projects far beyond HPI in recent decades.” This has benefited Germany as both a technological location and a business location.
Since 1916 the Werner-von-Siemens Stiftung has honored outstanding engineers for their groundbreaking achievements. The foundation board declared Professor Dr. h.c. Hasso Plattner recipient of the Werner-von-Siemens Ring on Dec. 13, 2017.
