In the presence of Dietmar Woidke, Minister-President of Brandenburg and Dr. med. Clemens von Goetze, S. E. of the German Ambassador to China, Professor Meinel, Director of the Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI), and Professor Gonghui Liu, President of the Beijing University of Technology (BJUT), signed an extension of the existing cooperation agreement for another six years.
Woidke called the "Internet Bridge" a “prime example” of HPI's commitment to projects with Chinese partners. "Digitization has become indispensable for the solution of all major future tasks. And HPI has played a key role in this area, inspiring and providing excellent training for entire generations of scientists and junior executives in the field of computer engineering. This is the best kind of marketing for Brandenburg," Woidke said further.
Meinel, who is also head of the Internet Technologies and Systems research group at HPI, said: "HPI has been committed to close German-Chinese cooperation for many years and it’s something it practices itself. As part of the cooperation project, ‘Internet Bridge: Germany – China’, I have been teaching young computer scientists at the Beijing University of Technology online for more than 15 years and hold face-to-face exams once a year. Since 2011, HPI has maintained its own branch of the Research School at Nanjing University."
