Nanjing University

Nov 17 2011 marked the inauguration of the "HPI Research School at Nanjing University". HPI director Prof. Christoph Meinel welcomed the first five Chinese doctoral students and their supervising professors. The Ph.D. students that originally hail from the computer science department raise the total head count of the HPI Research School to 50. Together, the highly talented young scientists from all across the globe tackle various issues in the field of service-oriented IT systems.

The main research areas of the Chinese Ph.D. students are "Mass Data Analytics and Knowledge Discovery". They will do their work in the former capitol of China, Nanjing, which is situated about 300 kilometers northwest of Shanghai.

Prof. Wang Chongjun

Professor WANG Chongjun, born in Apr. 1975, was graduated from Nanjing University in Jun., 2004,received Ph.D. degree in 2004. Currently he is a full-time Professor at the Dept. of Computer Science and Technology, Nanjing University. His research interests include agent and multi-agent systems, complex network analysis, big data analysis and intelligent systems. He published 2 books and over 50 papers in journals and proceedings these five years. He has won research funding from several competitive sources such as the National Key Research and Development Program of China, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the National 973 Program of China.

Prof. Song Fangmin

Professor SONG Fangmin, born in Nov. 1961, was graduated from Nanjing University in February, 1982,received B.Sc. degree in 1982, M.Sc. degree in 1985 and Ph.D. degree in 1987. During 1993 and 1994, he visited ETH, Switzerland and CTH, Sweden as a post-doctoral researcher. His recent research interests include Mathematical Logic, Formal Models of Programming and Quantum Computer. He was engaged in research projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation, the National 863 Hi-Tech Program and Programme Sino-Français de Recherches Avancées (PRA), and published over 40 papers. He was awarded the Prize of Progress in Science and Technology by the Ministry of Education. He was honored with the title “The Excellent Scientists of Jiangsu Province”.

Prof. Wu Gangshan

Gangshan Wu is a professor of Department of Computer Science and Technology of Nanjing University, and he is the head of Multimedia Lab of Nanjing University. He has visited Department of Computer Science of National Chiao Tung University. He has been the principal investigator and main investigator of dozens of key projects about computer vision, multimedia retrieval, intelligent web information processing, digital museum and large-scale seismic data processing and so on. He has published over 80 research papers in international and domestic journals and conferences. He has won the second prize of Science and Technological Achievement Awards of Jiangsu Province (1999), the grand prize of Education Achievement Award (2007), and the second prize of National High Education Achievement Award (2009). Currently, his research interests mainly include multimedia content analysis and retrieval.

Prof. Tang Jie

Dr. Tang Jie, born in Apr. 1971, received his Bachelor degree and Master degree both from Southeast University in Apr., 1994 and 1997 respectively. He received his Ph.D. degree from Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics in 2000. He worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of Computer Science and Technology, Nanjing University, China. His research interests focus on computer vision, multimedia technology, and big data technology. During 2013 and 2014, he visited Purdue University, USA as a visiting scholar. He was engaged in research projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation, the National 863 Hi-Tech Program and National Science and Technology Major Project of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, and has published over 40 papers.

Prof. Xie Junyuan

Professor XIE Junyuan, born in Aug. 1961, was graduated from Nanjing University in Jun. 1983,B.Sc. degree in 1983, M.Sc. degree in 1986. Currently he is a full-time Professor at the Dept. of Computer Science and Technology, Nanjing University. His research interests include agent and multi-agent systems, complex network analysis, big data analysis and intelligent systems. He published more than 50 papers in journals and proceedings these five years. Prof. Dou Wanchun

Professor DOU Wanchun, born in Aug. 1971, was graduated from Hebei University of Engineering in 1994,received his Ph.D. degree in 2001. During 1994 and 1996, he worked in Xuzhou Construction Machinery Group Co., Ltd. (XCMG). In 2005 and 2009, he visited Hong Kong University of Science and Technology as visited scholar. His resent research interests include big data, cloud computing. He chaired research projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation, and National Key Research and Development Program of China, and published over 100 papers. He was awarded the "New Century Excellent Talents in In University" by Ministry of Education of China in 2016.

Prof. Chen Zhenyu

Zhenyu Chen is the founder of Mooctest (mooctest.net), and he is currently a Professor at the Software Institute, Nanjing University. He received his Bachelor, and Ph.D. in Mathematics from Nanjing University. He worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the School of Computer Science and Engineering, Southeast University, China. His research interests focus on intelligent software engineering. He has more than 80 publications in journals and proceedings including TOSEM, TSE, ICSE, FSE, ASE, ISSTA, ICST etc. He serves as the associated editor for IEEE Transactions on Reliability. He also founded the NJSD (Nanjing Global Software Development Conference). He has won research funding from several competitive sources such as NSFC. He is a member of the IEEE, the ACM and the CCF.
