openHPI: Digital Skills for the d!conomy – How Children Learn Programming through Play

Learning how to program at home, on the go, at school or at work is possible with the digital educational platform at Hasso Plattner Institute https://open.hpi.de. In its free online courses, open to everyone (Massive Open Online Courses - MOOC), young people and adults alike acquire the ability through play to enter the commands they have learned into their own computer. The HPI high performance computers in Potsdam process the thousands of commands in real-time with the results immediately evident, for example in the movement of an object in the participant’s browser.

Hasso Plattner Institute thus promotes the dissemination of the fourth cultural foundation of culture (in addition to reading, writing and arithmetic): the programming skills of the digital age. What started in September 2014 with a course on the easy to learn programming language Python will be continued in spring of 2015. How? This is explained by CeBIT exhibitor Hasso Plattner Institute (https://hpi.de) in Hall 9, Stand D44.
