Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.): IT Systems Engineering

With our Bachelor's program in IT Systems Engineering, we offer a highly practical and software-oriented computer science program. It combines the basics of software development with engineering methodology.

Program Overview

Students who aspire to a bachelor's degree in computer science at HPI, not only acquire theoretical knowledge, but also practical skills and knowledge.

The study program is tuition free and culminates in the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree, awarded jointly by Digital Engineering Faculty of the Hasso Plattner Institute and the University of Potsdam.

Studying Computer Science at HPI

The global need is growing for IT experts who are not only highly qualified in technology, but also have important interdisciplinary skills and key competencies. These qualities, which play a decisive role in the successful management of large, networked IT projects, are an integral part of our IT Systems Engineering degree program.

Contents of the Study Program in IT Systems Engineering

In addition to the basics of classic computer science, we teach our students to understand, plan, develop, evaluate and expand complex, distributed IT systems. The focus is on various modelling and programming techniques, software architectures and software-based systems.

In the Bachelor's program, points of emphasis can be set in specialization fields. Below you will find an overview of the contents of the program.

Professional Skills and Practical Experience

Professional Skills:

Our students are able to develop complex IT systems after completing their studies.

The Professional Skills Colloquium provides students the means to confidently master this challenge. Here students learn methods and techniques to expand their communication skills as well as project and self-management competencies. Students also acquire fundamental knowledge of economics and law.

The Bachelor Project:

A special feature at the heart of the practice-oriented study program is the Bachelor project. In the fifth and sixth semesters, students develop their own software project in a team, which includes concrete tasks from partners from business, society and research. The project, carried out at the end of the Bachelor's studies, provides the opportunity to put what has been learned into practice.

Entrepreneurship and Design Thinking

In addition to providing IT qualifications, HPI's training program opens the door to successful self-employment. The topic areas Entrepreneurship and Design Thinking support our graduates in starting their own IT company.
