Beschreibung

Anonymous credentials enable users to securely authenticate themselves in a privacy-preserving manner. In contrast to standard certificates (based on standard digital signatures), anonymous credentials allow for proving the possession of the necessary access credentials without revealing their full content (such as name or date of birth) and without imposing unique cryptographic values that make all usages of the user's credential linkable.

Anonymous credentials usually rely on advanced cryptographic concepts such as zero-knowledge proofs, re-randomizable signatures and pairing-based cryptography. While the core structure is often similar, there are many different protocol variants and extensions, aiming at different authentication scenarios and use case requirements.

In this seminar, we are going to investigate several anonymous credential protocols with different properties. This course will start with a lecturing period to provide the necessary background on the cryptographic primitives that are used to construct anonymous credential schemes. Subsequently, students are going to prepare a technical presentation (60 minutes presentation and 30 minutes discussion) of a selected protocol.

The course language will be English.

More information and a list of papers/protocols will be given in our Moodle: https://moodle.hpi.de/course/view.php?id=422

Voraussetzungen

  • Basic knowledge of cryptography and provable security (Cryptography course at HPI or equivalent)
  • Recommended: Advanced Cryptography course or equivalent

Leistungserfassung

Grades will be based on the presentation and the discussion (80%), a small quiz at the end of lecturing period (10%), and communication/participation of the student during the seminar (10%).

Termine

The seminar will be held Tuesdays, 13.30 - 15.00 in G3.E15/16. The first lecture is on 25.04.2023.
