Beschreibung

*** The first meeting will take place on April, 22nd instead of April, 15th.***

In this seminar advanced technologies for handling and analyzing enterprise data will be explored. Besides operational day-to-day business, enterprise data is an important basis for business analytics to determine stratagies and future opportunities. Therefore, highly specialized solutions have been developed to reduce the masses of operational data into a useable form, e.g. aggregation in data warehouses. Traditionally, operational enterprise data is stored in disc-based relational databases and has to be transferred and transformed into
the systems for analytics. As a result, data for analytics is pre-filtered and does not allow for maximum flexibility. Furthermore, data transfer and transformation runs are usually batch processes run only periodically, so data used for analytics is not always up-to-date. In bringing the operational and analytical systems together many questions arise, e.g. how to store data efficiently for both workloads, schedule between operational and analytical queries, locking, or data partitioning. These will be tackled in this seminar.

Each participant has to write a paper that adheres to the guidelines of scientific writing. The participants are also required to prepare a presentation about their topic. In doing so, they will learn how to defend one's ideas in front of the scientific community. Furthermore, the participants are required to build up impartial opinions on the work of the other participants by writing obejctive reviews of their papers.
