Beschreibung

Robotic process automation (RPA) is a process automation technology where the software robots take a central role in the execution of business processes. Different from the traditional business process automation, process robots are designed to mimic the behavior of human users (to a certain extent) and exploit the same GUIs to perform process tasks automatically. This allows for quicker and cheaper process automation as opposed to traditional automation where it is required to design complex APIs.

In this seminar, we investigate the execution of business process models through RPA. Given a specific use case, the students have to design a detailed process model which is subject to RPA. Afterwards the students have to design and implement robots that are able to execute the process model, partially or as a whole. Students may use existing solutions for designig robots or come up with their own implementations.

Voraussetzungen

Basic knowledge in business process modeling.

Lern- und Lehrformen

Given the current situation related to Covid 19, this seminar will continue following an online format until further notice. For that, we would like to have your collaboration. Please send an email to adriatik.nikaj(at)hpi.de to express your interest in the seminar. This will help us to send you an invitation for the first online Zoom meeting. The Kickoff meeting will take place next week at 9:15 am as planned in the study schedule. In this meeting we willl provide a short introduction to RPA and discuss some use cases as basis for the project work.

Depending on the number of interested students we may have to distribute the work to smaller groups. After the work is distributed you have to officially register for the course before May 12.

Leistungserfassung

The final grade will be decided based on the following milestones:

  • an intermediate presentation (20% of the total mark)
  • a final presentation (30% of the total mark)
  • prototype design and implementation (50% of the total mark)
