Two prizes for research and teaching

Two members of the group have been honored for their accomplishments in research and teaching in the last year by their former Alma Mater.

Ph.D. student Martin Schirneck has been awarded the Examenspreis des Dekans (Dean's Prize) of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena for writing the best master's thesis in 2015. His work On Restrictions in Computational Language Learning has a strong research focus and formed the basis of the 2016 STACS paper Towards an Atlas of Computational Learning Theory he co-authored with thesis advisor Timo Kötzing.

Thomas Bläsius, who is a postdoctoral researcher with the group, has received an accolade for his teaching at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. His exercise sessions accompanying a lecture about planar graphs have been named Beste Lehrveranstaltung 2015 (course of the year) by the Department of Informatics.
